Marketing isn’t enough – you need Digital Marketing

Another Desi BOOM: Zoho’s Ulaa takes the leap – will it compete the renounced chrome?

Ah, Browsers – we don’t even call a browser a browser, it’s CHROME. That’s how Chrome has been wearing the crown through years. It is however often being faced by oppositions including Safari, Edge, and Brave – but now Zoho flung something new, its all new Browser – “Ulaa”. Will Ulaa really make a Ureka moment or just fade, at most linger like others in the background?

The Browser Brawl

The last thing which the internet needs is ‘another browser’. Safari, Edge, Mozila, Opera, Brave and now India’s Ulaa. Ulaa – Zoho’s very own browser, slid into the App Store charts like an underdog ready to punch the Big Boys. Arattai previously acted as the Desi Competitor of WhatsApp in India, and now THE BROWSER BRAWL – India’s browsing competitor of Chrome.

How is different from Chrome?

Well, the reality is Ulaa itself is built on CHROMIUM, the same platform where Chrome, Brave and Edge is built. However Zoho promises that Ulaa wouldn’t be just another copy-paste browser. It holds a MASTER KEY.

It’s PRIVACY.

Chrome practically makes out by feeding your data to Google Ad machines, Ulaa stands firm by refusing to sell any user data.

Here are some quick differentiators:-

  • Ad-free experience (say goodbye to cookie-pocalypse).
  • Modes for Work, Personal & Kids (like browser profiles but more desi in execution).
  • No tracking — Zoho claims Ulaa doesn’t even keep tabs on your activity.

Chrome sells your data for a better user experience, however Zoho’s ways are different, and in some cases mysterious – it may actually serve you better without practically selling you.

Can something like Ulaa survive in the AI-focused World?

Privacy first, AI-later.

That’s the opposite road which perhaps Ulaa is taking. Chrome is however already working with Google Search Generative Experience, Gemini and others.

AI is a fast moving term, constantly thriving to provide the best of user experience. In a world which is obsessed with AI productivity, coding co-pilots, and smart search suggestions, can a browser like ‘Ulaa’ completely thrive on the pillars of PRIVACY? Time shall decode that.

On the other side of coin, browsers like Brave and DuckDuckGo have already proven that there is a class of people who wants less drama and more browsing peace. Ulaa just has to find that loyal tribe.

What News has to say on it?

Bloomberg and other Prominent news like Livemint has been tracking Zoho’s global ambitions quite seriously. Their coverage highlights how Zoho is quietly but steadily expanding its product ecosystem — often competing head-to-head with giants like Google and Microsoft, but with a homegrown, bootstrapped twist.

In the context of Ulaa, the media frames it as “another bold attempt by Zoho to carve out its own ecosystem of trust and privacy, standing tall in an AI-dominated, data-hungry world.

A History in Making or Just a Chain-of-Hype?

First Arattai, now Ulaa — Zoho is on a roll, building its own parallel world of apps, tools, and now browsers. Some may dismiss it as hype (“Koo déjà vu, anyone?”), but the difference is Zoho isn’t running on investor cash; it’s running on its own profits. That’s a whole different kind of stamina.

So, is Ulaa the browser that will rewrite the internet rulebook? Or will it just end up as the “Koo” in tech history? Hard to tell.

But one thing’s for sure — Zoho has proven that India’s tech scene is no longer just about outsourcing and IT services. It’s about creating products that go toe-to-toe with Silicon Valley.

From My Side of Story

And to you, dear reader: maybe give Ulaa a spin. Worst-case scenario? You uninstall it and crawl back to Chrome. Best case? You find yourself browsing in peace, without a thousand ads stalking your every move. Either way, it’s worth a try. After all, revolutions often start quietly and you can be a part.
