Marketing isn’t enough – you need Digital Marketing

What is Digital Marketing?

and why you should know about it?

Does this above image looks like a lot of traffic? Jargon? Well, don’t worry – even I thought of the same thing when I first leaped Digital. Soon this ‘traffic’ will be a common word for you – keep up with me!

Ever wondered why that Nike ad follows you everywhere – from YouTube to Instagram to Google Search Bar? If you that’s coincidence, that’s digital marketing at work.

You searched for a Lenovo Laptop in Amazon went through some features and exited the app. Sometimes later you randomly opened a Google website – and beside it saw the ad of the exact same laptop you have been viewing in Amazon. You exited Google, and went to YouTube for some chill – and woah, in between you see a flashy laptop video of – you guessed it, Lenovo, the same one.

This is a targeted digital marketing which has been done intentionally without the tinge of coincidence.

But it is also the reason Zomato memes go viral, startups explode, and why even your local salon or kirana-shop has an Instagram Page.

Digital Marketing is the art and science of reaching people where they spend most of their time – ONLINE. From the ads that follow you after one random Google Search, to some company memes that make you laugh while ordering food, it’s all digital marketing.

In short, it’s about using the internet – websites, social media, search engines, and even your email inbox – to connect with customers, build trust and (let’s be honest) convince them to click that shiny ‘Buy Now’ button. Let me show you how the screen is guiding you:

Which one are you tempted to click first?

If you think it’s ‘Buy Now’ – you’re not alone, and you’re not at fault. The buttons are designed like this only to drive your choice. Companies don’t want that you keep an item added to cart and delay your purchase – they subtly wish you to purchase now.

In this above example, I shared a strategy called ‘CRO’ (Conversion Rate Optimization) – which is implemented. This is again a sub-folder of the large Digital Marketing. This is how thinks work, at least you got the basics, didn’t you?

But Why Digital Marketing?

  • Because in 2025, ignoring digital marketing is like refusing to use a smartphone. You can survive, but barely.
  • Because your customers are online. If you’re not there too, you’re basically throwing a party with no invitations.
  • Because the internet doesn’t sleep, so your business shouldn’t either.
  • Because attention span today is shorter than a goldfish (~ 5 seconds). Digital Marketing is how you win that 3 seconds battle.
  • Because a purchase from your shop can be done just through a push notification
